The Design
The primary design intent was to ensure the residence nestles seamlessly within the natural contours of the site. The built form was to engage respectfully with the landscape, with a façade that dissolves into its bushland context. A muted, organic exterior palette—drawn directly from the tones of eucalyptus bark and the surrounding native vegetation—anchors the architecture to its environment.
The spatial brief required a careful balance between intimacy and expansiveness—spaces that feel grounded and comfortable for daily living for 2 yet flexible enough to host up to 40 guests without compromise. The layout includes master bedroom wing, 2 offices, extensive kitchen dining and 2 living spaces plus four self-contained guest suites, a custom-built bunkroom sleeping up to twelve.
Green Line Interior Design collaborated closely with the draftsman to establish axial relationships and curated sightlines, ensuring a strong visual and spatial logic throughout. Early involvement in the design process enabled the interior designer to interrogate the brief, refine spatial adjacencies, and reconfigure the structural grid to optimise functionality, flow, and the experiential quality of each interior zone.
Inspired by the textures and tones of eucalypt gums, bark, and rust-red stone, the external palette draws directly from the site's natural vernacular. The materiality is deliberately honest—galvanised iron roofing, BAL-29-rated Blackbutt timber posts, and custom stainless-steel downpipes form the architectural language of the home. The walls, finished in a warm, earthy render, allow the building to quietly recede into the bushland, creating a sense of belonging among the surrounding gums.
